How to Prepare Statistics for Combined Defence Services Examination – The Union Public Service Commission conducts the Combined Defence Services Examination, also known as the CDS exam, to recruit Commissioned Officers to the Indian Military Academy (IMA), Indian Air Force Academy (IAF)  Indian Naval Academy (INA), and Officers Training Academy (OTA).

The selection procedure is divided into two stages i.e., a written exam and SSB Interview. 

  • One of the most significant topics for students studying for defense examinations and other competitive exams is statistics. Around 8 to 10 questions from statistics are asked in the CDS written exam every year. 
  • It is included in the syllabus because it aids in assessing a candidate’s ability to collect data, evaluate it, present it, and utilize the right analysis technique (Line of Regression, Classification, or other models) to successfully convey results. It essentially generalizes the sample data such that everyone may understand it. Statistics questions on defense exams can be hard, and a student must handle them deftly and rapidly in order to get a good grade.
  • Statistics is incorporated in the syllabus for various government and public sector tests, such as SSC, Railways, Insurance, and banking exams, in addition to the CDS and other defense exams. As a result, statistics is a topic that you must not overlook.

Variability 

It measures how many standard deviations a population’s raw score is above or below the mean. You must be thorough with the different ways to describe variability in a data set i.e., range, variance, standard deviation and others.

Estimation and Sampling Distributions

The sampling distribution is the statistical probability distribution obtained from a sample selected from a population.

Probability

It is a numerical representation of the frequency with which an event occurs. Aspirants should be through with theoretical probability, The difference between experimental probability and theoretical probability, complementary events and more.
